Godspell, released in 1973, is the film adaptation of the Off-Broadway musical Godspell created by John-Michael Tebelak. Set in modern New York City, the film stars Victor Garber as Jesus and David Haskell as John the Baptist/Judas. John-Michael Tebelak is credited as co-writer of the screenplay and served as the creative consultant, although director David Greene said Tebelak did not write the screenplay. It was filmed in New York from August to November 1972. The structure of the musical is, in large part, retained: a series of parables interspersed with musical numbers. Many of the scenes take advantage of well-known sites around New York City. John the Baptist (David Haskell) gathers a diverse band of youthful disciples to follow and learn from the teachings of Jesus (Victor Garber). These disciples then proceed to form a roving acting troupe that enacts Jesus's parables through the streets of New York. They often make references to vaudeville schtick. Less

May 7, 2012 - i love how they just walked away from every thing...but when i was young it was kinda scary how the guy they ran up too looked like the image they give you every where of the Christ but he wasn't the Christ! he even stated too baptize them. but then he appeared and the real Christ looked in no way like what was perceived.this movie made my soul vibrate with joy i didn't know what i was feeling at the time.

Apr 17, 2012 - Be clear, your Family was under the illusion that they were "Serving" this Country... it was THE ROCKEFELLERS and Co. that they were really serving. I have one brother and a cousin no longer on this Earth because of that bogus farce of a fucked up war.The Corporate Order loves knee jerk reflex ppl clueless to the behind the scenes reality.Maybe if you did a little research it wouldn't be so beyond your logical comprehension.....Google "Rockefeller war profiteer Vietnam war" for starters.....

Apr 17, 2012 - You know nothing about me, to make such assumptions only shows what a moron you are... and did I tell you to shut up you angry creep ? I said you're entitled to your view, but it's a NARROW slice , and it is. Add reading comprehension to your to-do list along with getting a Personality. .

Apr 17, 2012 - You liberal hypcrites are always the ones claiming to be open-minded, but the first time someone even hints at having a different opinion, you want to shut them up. Go spill your drivel to someone who cares to hear it. "It ain't me, baby!" You are probably either an old hippie, dying for a rebirth of the communal days, or a punk that can hardly wipe their own butt! You talk peace, you want anarchy. If I have seen 10 of you (thank God it isn't often) then I've seen enough to know it's a turn-off!
womanwonder10 Says:
Apr 17, 2012 - It was life and if you weren't around back then, then your opinion is pretty much irrelevant. Oh,yes, burning the draft card--and running off to Canada. My brother was not a wus.Maybe that's where you come from.My entire family served this country. How in the world you can tie the banks in with the Vietnam War is beyond my logical comprehension. And what is your idea of the American Way. I'm sure what we have now is, with one foot on the edge of socialism, possibly facism,+ the other on a banana.
Zeuszgrl Says:
Apr 17, 2012 - Your experience was a narrow slice of a vast movement that encompassed many many individuals. You are entitled to your opinion, but just be clear, it's very subjective and narrow. If soldiers weren't manipulated into laying their lives on the line only to serve the bank accounts of huge corporate holdings masquerading as the American Way, then they couldn't get hurt could they ? No government can make you do things that are against your conscience, burning the draft card was an option.
womanwonder10 Says:
Apr 16, 2012 - Good song, but the "acting" is insufficient in my opinion!
womanwonder10 Says:
Apr 16, 2012 - Hippies, better gov't? Oh, you mean like the ones who spit in my brother's face when he got back from Vietnam for a furlough to be with us, his family, after serving in that horrible war(and still had to go back). And don't tell me that the hippies didn't want our soldiers in harm's way. They only cared about themselves, their drugs, and protesting whomever was in DC--dem or rep. If you weren't one of them, you were sh*t to them!!
seamus33333 Says:
Apr 8, 2012 - Not Christian.... very far from it but this makes me feel lifted and it makes me want to fly in clouds. Idek.
Zeuszgrl Says:
Apr 8, 2012 - HIPPIES ROCK !! If we had Hippies in government do you think we'd have een half the CRISISES we have now ?!

Feb 19, 2012 - I miss this, the true spirit of Christianity; so many false religions taking away the Spirit of God. Yellow Deli included!! More dangerous than Jerry Falwell.

Feb 18, 2012 - This movie really defines "Strangers are just friends you haven't met yet"! On a side note, doesn't Jeffrey (taxi driver) look a little like John Denver?

Feb 18, 2012 - I've just looked if Victor Garber is still around, can't beleive who he is, would've never thought that was him!
